Luke started his Martial Arts Journey 15 years ago in America and has been living in Asia and teaching in International schools and martial arts academies for the last 8 years. He has a background in Amateur Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, and has extensive competition experience.
American wrestling and discovering BJJ
He first discovered martial arts in grade 8 when he began amateur wrestling in his home town of Parkersburg, West Virginia. During high school he wrestled for Parkersburg High School, one of the top 20 ranked high school wrestling programs in America. While wrestling he found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and trained both simultaneously until graduation. After Graduation he moved to NYC to study and graduated from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA).
Kickboxing in Canada and the Adrenaline Training Center
After graduating college he moved to London, Ontario Canada where he began training at one of the best kickboxing gyms in North America, the Adrenaline Training Center (ATC). ATC is a famed gym in Canada which gave birth to many UFC fighters and title challengers. ATC was a Bas Rutten lineage gym opened up by one of his top trainers, Shawn Tompkins, and succeeded by several of his top students including Mark Hominick, (who fought Jose Aldo for the UFC title) Sam Stout (UFC vet), Chris Horodecki (WEC vet), and Chris Clements (UFC vet). After two years he moved to a caribbean island called St. Lucia where he periodically trained with the St. Lucia national boxing team before moving to Singapore in 2013.
Singapore, International School Teacher, Evolve MMA, and Trifecta Martial Arts
Luke got his teaching certification while in Singapore and spent 3 years working for local international schools including the Chinese International School (CNIS) and the Singapore Korean International School (SKIS). While he was teaching full time he was also training at the world renown Evolve MMA before getting a chance to begin his career as a coach at Trifecta Martial Arts. There he started out as a wrestling coach and beginner BJJ coach, but eventually worked his way up to teaching a full curriculum of classes and ultimately becoming a branch manager.
Head Coach Klinch MMA, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
After leaving Trifecta Luke moved to Malaysia and began his first head coaching position. There he taught Muay Thai, BJJ, and MMA, and was able to gain more coaching experience and focus on putting together an extensive all encompassing mixed Martial Arts curriculum.
Moving back to Singapore, getting his BJJ black belt, opening up Stronghold MMA and beginning the Stronghold Podcast
In 2019 Luke moved back to Singapore and opened up Stronghold MMA and started the Stronghold Podcast. In January of 2020 he received his BJJ black belt from Nic Gregoriades. He's a 3rd degree black belt under the legendary Roger Gracie (his first black belt) and founder of the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood. Now Luke focuses on building his academy and growing his podcast.
